Footy in Canada is driven primarily by amateur athletes, volunteers, and supporters. There are many ways to get involved at the club, league, or national level. Each role helps to grow the game and introduce more people to footy.

TRAINING
Looking to try footy? Join us for training!
Whether you’ve never seen a footy before or you’re a seasoned veteran, all are welcome! For new players, we’ll make sure to teach you everything you need to know. Join our training sessions at any time during the season!
MONTREAL
During the summer season, our Montreal club hosts free outdoor training sessions that are co-ed and non-contact. While in winter/spring, preseason training sessions are held in sporting domes or gymnasiums. These sessions normally have a fee associated with them to cover the cost of field rentals but all new players are entitled to a free session to try out footy. New players are welcome to join our trainings at any time in all seasons. Come for as many or as little trainings as fit your schedule, we’d love to have you!

PLAY FOOTY
MONTREAL
Like most leagues outside of Australia, AFL Quebec primarily 9 to 12-a-side footy due to the size of available fields and to promote local player development. The Montreal regular season generally runs from May until October with 9 regular rounds of contact footy followed by a series of finals games.
AFL Quebec’s current contact league consists of six clubs based in Montreal; two women’s division clubs (NDG Giants & Montreal City Blues) and three men’s division clubs (Old Montreal Dockers, Montreal Demons, and the Montreal City Blues).
Montreal also boasts a non-contact co-ed Winter League that runs sessions during the off season. These sessions normally include 1 hour of training and 1 hour of game play. Non-contact games are also played irregularly throughout the summer season.
REGIONAL CLUBS
AFL Quebec is actively growing and developing Australian football clubs across the province! We currently have clubs in Sherbrooke, Mirabel, and Quebec City that host trainings throughout the year. They are actively recruiting players to help further grow Australian football in Quebec!

QUEBEC SAINTS
AFL Quebec has both men’s and women’s representative eighteen-a-side teams – the Quebec Saints. They compete against other representative teams from across Canada and the United States. These games occur throughout the season in one-off games or at an invitational tournament. Such a tournaments include the Montreal Women’s Tournament, AFL Canada Cup, AFL Canada Men’s Club Championships, and USAFL Nationals.
MINI SAINTS FOOTY JUNIOR PROGRAM (AUSKICK)
After a successful 6 week inaugural junior program in Fall 2023 for children aged 3 to 15 years old, AFL Quebec is excited to continue to grow our program options for junior members with seasonal 6 week programs and introductory sessions. Our Mini Saints Footy programs include training sessions to introduce children to Australian football, teach and develop fundamental skills, and experience non-contact game play.

AFL Canada Umpire Training
Umpires are critical to maintaining a safe, fair, and fun environment for all players. Umpiring roles include field umpires, goal umpires, boundary umpires, and timekeepers. AFL Canada is working to build our capacity to deliver the sport by supporting the recruitment and training of volunteer umpires across Canada. We are also building a National Umpire Strategy.
AFL Canada Coaching Certification
AFL Canada is dedicated to ensuring all AFL Canada members across the country, from junior to senior, have access to the highest quality coaching and umpiring available to ensure proper development and safe sport.
AFL Canada’s coach education program is designed to be a professional development program for Australian Football coaches across Canada.
